I see the desire here, but I wonder if believers see the irony of trusting a late blind woman to see what no one else can. So the Baba Vanga phenomenon circa 2018 centers around practically unsourced lists of predictions from a woman who died two decades ago and is fueled by the rather obvious confirmation bias of those who want to believe we don't necessarily have to go careening blindly into the future. It almost seems as though her "predictions" for 2028 got compressed and shifted back a decade over the course of a game of telephone played via many many generations of email forwards. " 2028 – Creating a new energy source (probably a controlled thermonuclear reaction). So about her prediction that we'll find a new energy source on Venus in the next 12 months? Ten years ago, the email list of her predictions that was being forwarded around claimed Vanga had made the following predictions for 2028: While those texts may exist somewhere, I was unable to find them or any references to them and none of the coverage of recent years ever cites them. Because she was blind and only semi-literate, her staff is said to have written down her thoughts and predictions of the future. The list itself provides no original quotes or texts from Vanga herself.
Interestingly, there is a list of Vanga's predictions that has been circulating via email for at least a decade that seems to include most of the prophecies cited by the tabloids in recent years.
The articles that have resurrected the famed blind prognosticator's visions in recent years typically come from UK tabloids or cite those tabloids as sources, while the tabloids typically don't cite any of their own sources. The other problem with these predictions is the sourcing. It's difficult to say where they're coming from as I was unable to locate any primary sources for Vanga's predictions (in English or a translatable online document, that is). The former isn't exactly a shocker more on Venus in a moment. She's reported to have said that China will become a world power this year and that a new form of energy will be discovered on Venus. But let's withhold our doubts for a moment and consider Vanga's supposed predictions for 2018. The believer then surveys the vast catalog of events throughout history and finds one that fits an interpretation of that prediction, no matter how loosely (see the Brexit example above).The so-called prophet says something about the future that is either vague or open to interpretation.Actually, jets like those that flew into the World Trade Center are made of aluminum, but it's more important we talk about how these predictions work.
